The Naked Potter : Workshops

We are located in Vermont's Mad River Valley, home to Sugarbush & Mad River Glen, a host of artists, farm markets, great restaurants, clean, clear swimming holes, trails, hiking, biking and just plain relaxing. Bring your non-potter spouse/partner up for a getaway.

Pottery Classes

Fee: $200 plus materials
Skill Level: Beginner to Advanced
Includes: Three hours each week of hands on instruction.  Learn to make a pot from a ball of clay to a finished product.  Make functional stoneware pottery as well as decorative raku ware.

2011 Raku Workshops: Ala Carte or Combo Plate

Ala Carte July 16 & 17:

Bring your bisqued terra sigillata or burnished pots and learn the basics of traditional and naked raku firings. Techniques covered will include traditional glazing, slip resist, and foil saggar. Learn to safely load & fire a propane raku kiln without a pyrometer, pull and handle hot pots and finish your ware.

How many pots can you bring?

I will try to fire all of the pots that you bring but try to limit yourself to what can fit on a 23” shelf.

Time: 11:00 – 5:00ish

The Combo Plate 4 Sessions June 16, 23, July 7 & 24

Session 1:
We will start by learning some tips and throwing techniques that will be key in the success of your raku pots. We will break the bad habits and learn some new ones.

Session 2:
Trim those pots from session 1 and make a few small “wet trimmed” pots

Session 3:
Learn to make terra sigillata, apply and buff. The key to quality naked raku!

Session 4:
A one day intensive on traditional and naked raku firing.

Time:
Sessions 1-3: 5:30-8:30 pm
Session 4: 11:00 – 5:00ish

When: Anytime! You choose the length & course of study.
Fee: Starting at $200/day, B&B stay included
Includes: A great stay in our beautiful B&B, materials, firings, wheel instruction and a whole lot of fun. You choose what you want to learn....want to throw better? Fire a raku kiln? Learn about naked raku? Maybe you just need a place to experiment. You can do it here. Where else can you take time out from a hot firing & go jump in the cool, clean Mad River.
